Rich Aucoin knows how to put on a great show. His show this past Friday night at The Drake Hotel to celebrate his latest release, We’re All Dying to Live, was a multi-media spectacle, with 3 giant screens broadcasting edited viral videos, movie clips and pop-up lyrics. Blasts of confetti were shot out to the audience throughout the night. I had heard before that Rich Aucoin’s shows are crazy and now I know why. He is energetic and very personable, but more importantly this guy knows how to work a crowd.

Playing a sold-out show at the Drake, Rich Aucoin worked his magic on the crowd making everyone in the room feel involved in his show. He would start many of his songs asking the audience to repeat the lyrics that he had broadcasted on the screens, get the music going and then jump into the middle of the crowd to engage everyone in a dance party on the floor. For one song, he pulls out a parachute — like the ones kids play with in elementary school — and has the audience hold up the parachute while many others crammed under the parachute with Rich Aucoin for the song. To cap off the night, Rich Aucoin gave the audience his cell phone number and encouraged people to send him a text so he can send them a zip file of his album for free.

If you ever get a chance to check out Rich Aucoin live, I highly recommend it. I was not very familiar with his music going into the concert having only listened to a handful of tracks from CBC Radio 3,  however the way he brought his music to life and how he was able to engage the audience during the entirety of his set blew me away.
