New Raveonettes MP3 – Suicide + Review

I was lukewarm with The Raveonettes last album, Lust Lust Lust. It was enjoyable but a little bit on the similar material that they’ve done before.
While Sharin Foo has gone through a pregnancy for the last year, they’ve record a new album entitled “In & Out Of Control” for October 6th on Vice Records.
As for the song “Suicide”, it’s a decent track. I’m in love with a lot of the Raveonettes‘ tracks. While some may be critical of them, they are consistent with that sound and I do find myself wanting to move my feet or at the very least listening to the same track for hours and hours.
Suicide is not quite the track for playing over and over. It’s a bit average. Not overly entertaining but ultimately in the same vein of many Raveonette tracks. I figured they would release a better track for fans to get excited about.

Tropic Thunder Review and Playlist
Tropic Thunder came out on August 15th and while it’s been almost 2 weeks since the release date. I got to see it this past Monday. I must admit the commercial and subsequent promo videos released by the trio of Downey, Stiller and Black really made this movie look VERY stupid.
It got rave reviews but otherwise a lot of people weren’t too excited to see it. I went to see it as my friend leaves town for university (boo school is starting already). Anyway the movie itself isn’t what you expect it, at least the concept is given away with the trailers adding an increased level of hilarity.
The movie does have stupid humor but it pulls it off well though it is very offensive. I heard quite a lot about CNN saying something about the racial matter of this movie which there is none. However it is quite offensive towards the mental challenged or “retards – such as Ben Stiller’s character Tugg Speedman in the fake film “Simple Jack”. Now I must say I laughed but it crossed the line… if there is one downside to the film, it’s that.
Tom Cruise’s role in the film is downright hilarious. I hadn’t known he was in the film as he didn’t do any of the promotion and my friend didn’t even notice him in the film. He pulls off the fat, balding movie executive. You don’t really know it’s him unless you notice his eyes even then I still had my doubts until the final credits were rolling.
Pineapple Express was admittedly not as good as this film by a big margin as this movie actually had you laughing out loud, whether or not you tried to hold it in during those offensive moments. That’s the real importance of it, it makes you laugh hysterically without being too ridiculous. The concept of the movie saves it from being just your average comedy.
Rating: 4.25/5
As for the soundtrack, it was a very mainstream soundtrack and I guess it wasn’t too bad, the use of Flo Rida’s Low was hilarious but I’m too lazy to download that track. Click for the soundtrack here.
The playlist is after the jump (I’m evil)

SXSW Jealousy Playlist
I have not mentioned SXSW in any post… and for good measure. I’ve seen about 50 e-mails hyping the event and for a 19-year old stuck having to go to school there’s almost sadness that clouds around me knowing that I probably won’t be going down south to see SXSW until I’m older and out of school. Who knows when that’ll be…
There are probably 50 or so bands I’d like to see and while it feels dumb to list them in between the middle of the festival, a lot of blogs have taken a backburner and the promotional companies all seem to be quiet (times like these I miss the spamming).
Here the bands I’ve would’ve liked to see:
Simian Mobile Disco, Lightspeed Champion, White Williams, Okkervil River, Division Day, Shearwater, Peter Moren, A Place To Bury Strangers, Kate Tucker & The Sons of Sweden, Die! Die! Die!, Jens Lekman, Islands, J. Tillman, Emmy The Great, Evangelicals, Black Mountain, Holy Fuck, Vampire Weekend, Shapes Have Fangs, Fleet Foxes, Blitzen Trapper, Handsome Furs, Crystal Castles, Headlights, Shout Out Louds, The Raveonettes, Why?, Los Campesinos! and more I’d be iffy about.
Here’s my playlist:
Crimewave by Crystal Castles
Hearts of Iron by The Handsome Furs
Two Step Forwards by Emmy The Great
Innocent Son by The Fleet Foxes
Unless It Kicks by Okkervil River
Stormy High by Black Mountain
Streams of Whiskey by The Shout Out Louds feat. The Essex Green
That Great Love Sound by The Raveonettes
The Pulse by Holy Fuck
Country Caravan by Blitzen Trapper
2007, The Year Punk Rock Broke (My Heart) by Los Campesinos!
The Raveonettes: Lust Lust Lust
The Raveonettes are a two piece band from Denmark. The Raveonettes are noted for their repetitive style on their albums with “Whip It On” And “Chain Gang Of Love” being played in the same chord throughout the album.
Despite their repetitiveness, the Raveonettes were able to catch my attention with their style of aggressive rock and have created some of my favorite singles out in recent years. If you have not heard about the Raveonettes I probably would describe them as a band with a mix of pretty good male/female with harder sound that you typically won’t hear with duets. Most refer to Jesus And Mary Chain Chain as a common band that this band sounds like.
The Raveonettes are not actually an indie band. They have been signed to Sony all the way throughout the beginning of their career until recently. For me this doesn’t matter at all but it’s interesting that I find them more to be the hit producing type rather then the type to release masterpieces. This is actually what I would expect out of a mainstream band but the Raveonettes seem to grab the attention of indie bloggers just as much. The Raveonettes are releasing “Lust Lust Lust” on Fierce Panda Records which is a Indie record company based in the UK.
“Lust, Lust, Lust” is like their past albums to me. Very indistinguishable between songs but with some good tunes here and there. This is probably nothing special and there is nothing else for me to say. I love the Raveonettes just not so much when I’m forced to listen to a set of songs and not the ones I like so much about them. This gets a 3 out of 5 from me. Exactly what you would expect out of the Ravonettes, repetitive but catchy here and there. I actually see this one getting shelled by critics.
Here are some tracks I dig:
